Hiking, Travelling and Dreaming

This was intended to be my thoughts on travelling, but I'll have to tame my wanderlust for a while longer....

Cabin fever!

Our flat is still in the midst of being renovated. It is quite claustraphobic feeling. The living room, kitchen, laura's and crystal's room are all that we have left!! (for now) I wonder how Terrence and Bag did it having the 10 people they did on Durocher lastyear. I've taken up sanctuary in the basement, which was quite cozy. There were no mice and it was chilly- just the way I like to sleep. I wonder if it's possible to become a hermit, I feel way too territorial, which is what living alone can do to you.

By the way, I didn't end up voting for the bloc- attractive older man. I just couldn't do it...

It's early and I'm gonna attempt to jog, a great way to spend a day off.

A customer tried to give me a ring at work. He hangs out there a lot and is at least 40!! I misunderstood, thought he had found it (ie. someone had left it there and he was giving it to me to put in lost and found.) Then he said it was for me and I gave him a strange look. Tu comprends pas? he asked me and I told him that I didn't understand!!! Still don't.

My mom is going bonkers. I really shouldn't make fun of mental illness being in psych and all but this time she has gone too far. Lastnight at a party, "Raoul" was talking to a 17 yr old and mom got angry and hit the girl in the head. Te fact that she was intoxicated does not condone it!! FYI, mom is married to dad and Raoul is her next door neighbour who is single. It angers me... and when dad tries to go for a walk with her, she says he's "stalking her". It's like she's so obsessed that she doesn't understand what she's doing.

Okay had to vent that out!! I just wish my dad would find a girlfriend, but he sticks beside mom. I guess that's where I get my "scooterness" from. (See frame: what muppet are you?)

Work is improving, they have begun to trust me and I'm not always doing the bitch work!!

That's all and Phil has a job!!! ooooooh rotty;)

I'm voting bloc- 'cause Duceppe is hot (for an old guy)!! In my riding I'd rather help bloc win anyways. I definately don't want the conservatives to win but the liberals are not great either. Besides I won't live in Quebec forever so for now it's in my best interest to vote for them. They have a good platform, I'm just not into the sovernity thing so much.

Tender Loving Firth: Sorry about letting you down. I forgot about the airport until it was too late. The renovations have begun here and it was chaotic. (I had to move 20 2X4's just to get the phone out of the office) I am confined to the west wing of the flat and sleep deprived.

Well gotta travail in the am, so good night!!

Happy Ste Jean!!

The girlz get back Monday!
I'm eating creme glace
My bro got a job
Merc isn't a door knob
He cooked me moose
while singing footloose
Gotta go
my poem really blows

Packing is an emotional process. Even if I'm only moving my belongings into the living room, it still feels like I'm going somewhere. Actually I wish I were going somewhere. I'd love to take my backpack and hitch my way around. It would be dangerous but if I was with one other person, it would be safe enough. From experience, hitchhiking with a male makes it much less likely that you'll get a lift. Being solo as a female is the quickest, it's never taken me more than 10 minutes and that's on a bad day. Being 2 girls works too.

Strangely, I have rarely gotten a lift from a female. I don't think I look too threatening, yet the women drivers always have given me dirty looks as if they were saying "bad girl"! When I own a car and become a soccer mom, I'm gonna give lifts to the young girls that hitchike. (In a very long time of course)This way they could avoid a lift with a creep!!

But it doesn't look like I'll be hitchhiking anywhere for a while. I'm living the urban life sans the bling!

Adios!!

June 28, Let your voice be heard.

But if you're mute, lost or unsure of what you want, take this simple test. Try it, even if you know who you're choosing!! (By the way, I was 100% with Green Party, high on NDP, Liberal and Bloc were tied, and Conservative was low 40%) Still don't know who to vote for!!

  • Whodoivote4.com
  • I never understood Plato's allegory of the cave better than I do now. Basically I have been given knowledge and I now see things on another dimension. Things that I once saw as comfortable, now annoy me. It's difficult to say more than that. But it's nothing bad and it has to do with our neighbours down south of the border. (Uncle Sam)

Renovations this week!! Wednesday, the walls of my room will be stripped and insulated, and hopefully better protect me from Montreal's winters!! Luckily, our landlord is paying for it all and doing it, all I have to do is stay out of his way and sleep in another room for a week. It shouldn't be too hard- I don't sleep here that much anymore!!

Another mystery is why my internet is working. Maybe Sprint does support Cyberglobe?! Too late, I've switched to sympatico.

Well gotta sleep a bit do I can meet Mercury in the morning:)

    Sunday, June 20, 2004

It's the morning and I'm at Mercury's. It's nice not having to go to work today but it sucks that my hours keep on diminishing. Originally I had nearly 40 hours scheduled but as the week went down, my hours diminished to barely 30! It's annoying, barely enough to live off of. Don't have a clue how I'll save any to pay for next year's school. That government had better be generous, but looking at who will win (Liberal or Conservatives), it doesn't sound too hopeful.

I made a mistake at work yesterday. Out of the kindness of my heart I let a homeless lady use our bathrooms. Well 20 minutes later, she was still in there. I knocked and knocked. Finally I had to open the door to see if she was okay. It turned out she had passed out on it. It sounds crazy but it was true. She wouldn't wake up and the guy I was working with had to phone the police and ambulances. It was nuts. I was told never to let a homeless person use our toilets. I was just trying to be nice...

Okay, that's enough writing for now. My ranting could go on, but I won't.

    Later!

    Thursday, June 17, 2004

A beautiful day off- my job is to keep Mercury awake till he gets on that via train headed for Matapedia. I switched my phone to Sprint so I am without internet for 5 business days. Sprint never told me they wouldn't support my net with cyberglobe. To switch back to Bell would involve a begging fee, so I am forced to join another corporation- Sympatico (for the net). But it's unlimited and cheaper than Cyberglobe (no extra bills for uploading/downloading charges). I roped them into giving me a deal. But, still need to inform the roomies... don't think they'll mind.

I'm also suppossed to busk with my bro and Merc!! He's taking his sweet time to get here. Last I heard the Lyons girlz are in Rome and are heading to Amsterdam where they will stay with my dad's friend. Maybe they'll smoke a j for boy!! Maybe they'll make some extra cash... hehe nah, I'm kidding:)

Well that's all... Apparently I look portugese, according to the old hotel employee that frequents my cafe. I guess that's another language for me to learn, on top of spanish, mandarin and german. Still my French ain't perfect, but working in the city helps!!

    Adios:)

    Tuesday, June 15, 2004

I woke up to pouring rain hitting against my window screen. When I lifted the curtain to close the window a bit, I saw guys walking in the alley. It was 3 am and caught me off guard. When I woke up again, it was to the the rythms of elementary children playing baseball. St Henri can be so eery at night and so "normal" in the day!!

I finally learned the cheeseburger song. Now I need to convince Phil to let me busk with him. I think it could be fun, especially infront of a McDo!!!

Okay, that's all. Back to "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance"- a great book. It's more about life and less about motorcycles. Read it!!

    Monday, June 14, 2004

I've been in school nonstop for the past 16 years, not counting kindergarden. As much as I get stressed out and annoyed with it, it will definately be a shock once I finish. There are times when I wonder if it's worth it. Will I get a better job with it?? Today I understood partially why I'm in school. Welcome to the world of minimum wage! It's not the minimum wage that is annoying. It's when someone explains mopping a floor to you as if it's brain surgery.

It wouldn't surprise me if being spoken to in imperatives (commands, orders) produces negative brain brain waves!! It can get to one after a while, but the easiest way to pass it is to smile and be super compliant. It works for me (just like hooked on phonics).

Nothing else is new, except for being constantly being asked my age at work (l'histoire de ma vie!!)

    Adios

    Mercury this is for you!!

    The cheeseburger song!!

Mr. Lunt: He said to her I'd like a cheeseburger
And I might like a milkshake as well
She said to him, "I can't give you either"
And he said, "Isn't this Burger Bell?"
She said, "Yes it is, but we're closed now,
But we open tomorrow at ten."
He said, "I am extremely hungry,
But I guess I can wait until then."

    Cuz you're his cheeseburger
    His yummy cheeseburger
    He'll wait for you. Ya!
    He'll wait for you.
    Oh, you are his cheeseburger
    His tasty cheeseburger
    He'll wait for you
Oh, he will wait for you.

He stayed at the drive-thru till sunrise
He may have dozed off once or twice
When he spotted a billboard for Denny's
Bacon and eggs for half price!

How could he resist such an offer?
He really needed something to munch
Cheeseburger, please do not get angry
He'll eat and be back here for lunch!

    Cuz you're his cheeseburger
    His precious cheeseburger
    Be back for you.
    He'll be back for you.
    Won't be so long, cheeseburger
    Oh, lovely cheeseburger
    Be back for you
Oh, he'll be back for you.

Cuz he loves you cheeseburger with all his heart
And there's nothin' gonna tear you two apart
And if the world suddenly ran out of cheese,
He would get down on his hands and knees
To see if someone accidently dropped some cheese in the dirt
And he would wash it off for you
    Wipe it off for you
Clean that dirty cheese off just for you!

You are his cheese ... burrrr ... grrrrr!

    Do you know the law?

Today I quit my job at Resto Cafe Oxford. I did not give the boss two weeks notice. She told me that I will not get paid because of this. I think she is lying. I have known of people who have quit jobs after one day, and have still gotten paid.

Regardless of whether I gave her notice, I worked 17.5 hours and feel like there must be a law that allows me to get paid. However, she never took my SIN number and I never signed any forms. She never even told me if I was officially hired!!

Unfortunately, I must forget about this for now. Today I start my new job at Presse Cafe. If anyone knows what the laws are or where I can get info, let me know!!

Just got back from a bike ride to lachine along the canal. It was so liberating that I took off my shirt. The smog will protect me from a sunburn. It made me feel free but it still can't hold a candle to the mountains!!

I also got a new job today, so tomorrow will probably be my last shift at Oxford Café. It won't be a serving job but I frankly don't care at this point. I just want to work for someone that pays me for my hours, not for a crook who pays me for however many hours he feels like. And at the Presse Cafe (where I start on Friday), they actually give me my hours in advance. At the other place, they let me now right before I leave!!

Strangely, I'm habituating to the city. I even started wearing skirts!! It's quite comfortable on a warm day:)

Nothing else 'cept my pc has a Trojan horse and now the sound card stopped working. I partially feel like Phil is responsible because it only stopped working since he's been on my pc, but it's probably a coincidence.

Terrence Lawrence (aka the pylon thrower from Alexia Nihon) gave me 2 boxes of birth control pills today. That was definately one of the highlights of my night. Now I can get rid of all of my acne and pool every guy that I want in Montreal!

Mercury invited me over but he's asleep. I don't have the heart to wake him! And I forgot to bring him tylenol and fiddleheads....

    Adios!

    Where shall I start?

Yesterday, Mercury took me job hunting. This time I did it with class, I followed Clem's advice to wear a skirt;) So two places asked me to come in so they could try me out!! Today I went in to the first place- resto cafe oxford, on Ste Catherine near Atwater. It went ok but I found out it's not going to be enough hours. So I'll need a night job if I stay there (or if they keep me). Tomorrow I have to go to another place for noon but I'm in a bind. I have to go back to Oxford at 10. I'd really like to try both places but I'll have to try to call and reschedule it.

The Lyons girlz are in Germany. The latest update is that they can't find Uncle Kurt. Their mom and Uncle Doug are freaking out, but I have faith in them! It must be overwhelming though with the language, and not finding their relatives.

I still have lots of fiddleheads left. It's quite the task to try to live off fiddleheads for a week, you try it!

    Job Hunting!

I started looking today. I don't think it could have gone any worse so tomorrow should be better. The rain didn't make it easy.

I'm really regretting staying in the city for this summer.
