Hiking, Travelling and Dreaming

This was intended to be my thoughts on travelling, but I'll have to tame my wanderlust for a while longer....

I'm continuing as Criss and Jane have done. Try to guess what lines these songs are from!

1)John at the bar is a friend of mine, and he gets me my drinks for free

2)Well, you said that we made such a pretty pair
And that you would never leave

I'm really too tired to do this...
Good night:)

Oooh Rotty!
It appears that I'm updating my blog as often as I shower!! Some of you will get it!!

What's new??

My dad and brother paid me a visit this weekend. It was nice, good food and since mom wasn't there, there was no fighting:) After this week my job hunting shall begin... I've finally accepted the fact that I'm stuck in the city all summer and I'll try to make the most of it. Plus I'll get to be outdoors (hopefully) for the canoe trip that a bunch of us are planning. We want to canoe down the Restigouche river from Kedgwick.

I can't really write too much more cuz I have a headache, too much staring at the computer screen.

Adios!

May is flying by and my brain can't wait. Three months of just working will do me good.

I didn't have enough of Jerry, so I lastnight I went with a church group to help serving dinner at the mission. It was fun and fast paced. I learned some interesting facts...

-Homeless people get welfare checks on the first of the month, if they go to the shelter
-From the 1st to the 15th of the month, you can only go in for breakfast/supper if you stayed there the night before
-After the 15th, anyone can go (they fed us after we fed everyone else:)
-About 300 men live there permanently and pay for it
-They serve over 28, 000 meals a month

We got a tour of the place too. It's clean and reminds me of a cross between a hostel and a cadet barracks! Sadly the mission is nearly 80% funded privately. However, those corporations have more than enough, so I won't rant on the government.

Anyhow I feel grungier than ... I don't know who. It's been 3 days since my last shower and I'm ready for bed!

Dog Fight

Lastnight I saw a dog fight in Verdun,
Two puppies got attacked by a bulldog weighing a tonne!
The owners tried to break it up,
A nearby neighbour poured water on the pup.
The dog was resilient, it did not cease
While Mercury and another guest begged for peace!
Luckily, someone pulled the dogs away,
In the end, they all were all ok.

This really did happen outside of Alex Ann's.

The ants go marching one by one hoorah, hoorah!
The ants go marching one by one hoorah, hoorah!
The ants go marching one by one,
They're taking over the bathroom- which is no fun!
And they all go marching down, to their traps, to get poison for their friends....

Why am I singing this song??

Because we have ants!! Not a computer virus like my father thought, but those little insects are rapidly taking over the West end of the flat. We've been targeting their workers but the main leader is yet to be found!! The war on terror continues...

High Lights!

On Saturday I gave in to the advertisers from Clairol and tried to get "brilliant highlights". (It's the kind that has the green comb and the streaking party commercial.) Yah,well a half hour later, I screamed with joy? horror? shock? I had these brilliant highlights, except they looked more like skunk stripes, and they were a light orange!! The only highlights were 3 inches from my roots and they didn't go downwards..

Even being a tomboy /an uncity-ish person, my skunk highlights only lasted a day. The following day, I bought some dark red dye, and made sure to dye the skunk highlights.

I think that maybe highlights are something that a hairdresser should do. While Clairol had me thinking that I could do them myself for $10, one would be better off paying the extra and getting it done properly. Also, in the directions where it says to "first test with conditioner"- don't skip that part!!!

All in all it was a funny experience. It brings me back to my teenage years!!

Ooooh Rotty!!

Just baked a banana bread (homemade). Of course, it tastes best the day after you make it, so I haven't touched it. I'm also doing laundry and I cleaned. I'm an awful sight, wearing a flowery apron and these blue capris with orange/white/yellow polka dots!

Paige left this morning and we walked over to say goodbye before there was light! It was weird to be awake and on my way to do something while drunks staggered home. But the city is quite peaceful at 5 am. It's no Matapedia but it's so quiet during its early hours.

Off I shall head to Mercury's party, polka-dot pants and all:)
